Installation guide

Pick up
the thread.

A few steps from a download to useful meeting memory, all on your Mac.

Make room on your Mac.

Polyscript targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. The application includes its native runtimes, so you do not need a separate Node installation, Homebrew, or a developer toolchain. Keep additional disk space available for any local models you choose to download.

Download, move, open.

  1. Get the Mac ZIP from the download page. The current version and SHA-256 checksum are shown there.
  2. Open the ZIP. Inside the Polyscript folder, move Polyscript.app to Applications. The accompanying files contain Electron and Chromium license notices.
  3. Open Polyscript from Finder. This preview is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. If macOS blocks first launch and you choose to allow it, follow Apple’s opening procedure: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
  4. Choose Explore a synthetic demo. It gives you fictional meetings to search and a source-linked answer to follow, without recording anything or downloading models.

Choose the models you need.

Open Settings & local models. Downloads happen only when you choose them, and each file is checked against a pinned checksum. The download retrieves model weights; it does not upload your meeting content.

Optional local models and their uses
ModelWhat it adds
Whisper Tiny or BaseLocal speech recognition for recordings and audio imports. Choose the speech model in Settings after installation.
NomicSearch by meaning. Install it, then use Build semantic search for your authorized saved transcripts.
QwenLocal selection of supporting quotations for questions. Keyword recall remains available without it.

Transcript import and keyword search need no model download. After setup, content processing works offline. Initial model preparation can take time; the app prepares speech before opening the microphone.

Start with an agreement.

Ask everyone involved for permission. Agree on transcription and the uses you enable, including saving, search, summaries, questions, or export. Do not use or share transcripts outside that agreement.

Each recording or import starts with fresh confirmations. Choose Save on this Mac for search and questions only when the agreement covers those uses. macOS microphone permission is separate from participant consent.

For recording, grant microphone access when macOS asks after your session is authorized. Use Finish to complete it or Withdraw permission & stop to cancel. Interview use is prohibited even with consent; a detected interview ends processing and closes the app.

Keep the thread going.

Read the release notes, download the newer version, quit Polyscript, and replace the app in Applications. Models and the local library are stored separately from the application bundle.

Leave deliberately.

Quit Polyscript and remove it from Applications. To also delete the default local library and models, deliberately remove ~/Library/Application Support/Polyscript. Custom profiles use their own directories. Original imports, exported copies, and backups must be managed separately.

Next: the user guide, including search, source passages, corrections, and troubleshooting.
